Custody Recovery

Guide an executor through a seed-phrase recovery workflow.

15–20 minutes

Inside this simulator

Operate the custody stack under failure conditions. You reconstruct a seed phrase from partial backup, exercise a multisig quorum after a signer is lost, and decide which of hot, warm, cold, and qualified-custodian arrangements suits each client situation.

What you'll do

  • Reconstruct a BIP-39 seed phrase from an incomplete backup
  • Recover funds through a 2-of-3 multisig after one key is unavailable
  • Compare self-custody, hybrid, and qualified-custodian models for the same client
  • Document the recovery path so a successor advisor could follow it

Skills you'll evidence

  • Explaining seed phrases and derivation to a client without hand-waving
  • Designing a quorum that survives one lost key but not one compromised signer
  • Assessing when a qualified custodian is the correct fiduciary answer

Who it's for

Advisors who are asked 'where are the coins actually kept' and need to answer with operational specifics.

Common questions

Why does multisig matter for advisory clients?
A 2-of-3 arrangement removes the single point of failure that destroys self-custodied wealth — one lost key no longer means lost funds — while still preventing any single party, including the advisor, from moving assets alone.
Are real keys or funds ever used?
Never. Every wallet, seed, and signature in this sandbox is generated for the exercise and holds nothing.
